Endoscopic vein harvesting: just a promised land?
Lopes et al1 recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine the results of a comparative study between open and endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) in coronary artery bypass surgery. This study did not pass unnoticed. An impressive record of 1000 patients per arm, 1800 angiographies at 12 to 18 months, and a clinical 3-year follow-up were analyzed. Surprisingly, the results of the 4000 ...
متن کاملImmunohistochemistry comparing endoscopic vein harvesting vs. open vein harvesting on saphenous vein endothelium
OBJECTIVE The present study attempts to compare the immunohistochemistry (IHC) of von Willebrand factor (vWf) , endothelial cadherin, Caveolin and endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS) in VasoView Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) versus traditional Open Vein Harvesting (OVH) techniques for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery performed in Javad al Aemeh Hospital of Mashhad, Iran in 20...
متن کاملCarbon dioxide embolism during endoscopic vein harvesting.
Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) is becoming common for the patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. Using carbon dioxide insufflations during the vein harvest can produce rare but catastrophic CO(2) embolism. We report a case of massive right atrial CO(2) embolism due to femoral vein injury which occurred during the performance of a routine EVH procedure.
متن کاملEndoscopic saphenous vein harvesting versus 'open' technique. A prospective study.
OBJECTIVE Preparation of the great saphenous vein for coronary artery bypass grafts is usually performed through one or many cutaneous incisions. A technique of endoscopic harvesting is now available. An aim of the study was to compare both methods, prospectively. METHODS Sixty coronary artery bypass grafting patients were randomly assigned to two groups according to saphenous vein harvesting...
متن کاملFactor V G1691A is associated with an increased risk of retinal vein occlusion: a meta-analysis
We performed a meta-analysis to investigate the association between the Factor V G1691A polymorphism and the risk of retinal vein occlusion (RVO). This analysis included 37 studies involving 2,510 cases and 3,466 controls. Factor V G1691A was associated with an increased risk of RVO in the allele, heterozygote, dominant, and carrier models (PA < 0.001, odds ratios >1), but not the homozygote or...
